This beautiful abandoned bungalow sits along Jalan Assam Kumbang, in one of the earliest residential zones in Taiping. It is located near the crossroads of Jalan Assam Kumbang, Jalan Izzudin Shah and Lorong Fraser. Access by car is a bit tricky: turning into Jalan Izzudin from the traffic lights at the crossroads, one will have to make a quick turn into the street where the bungalow is located. The bungalow is directly beside Dr. Cermin, a popular automobile window repair center.
After the originally discovered mines in Klian Pauh proper (near the prison) were close to exhaustion, prospectors began opening mines in other areas around the city, and Assam Kumbang had one of the largest mines. Many residential buildings were built along the main road of Assam Kumbang, presumably occupied by owners or supervisors of the mines. This bungalow is assumed to be one of these buildings. Several more large pre-war bungalows can still be seen along Jalan Assam Kumbang. Many of these are now the sites of used car dealers. After the mines here in Assam Kumbang were exhausted, the land was reclaimed and a vast residential zone was built atop the disused mines. These are now the neighbourhoods of Cator Avenue, Kampung Assam Kumbang (the earliest Malay residential zone in Taiping), Taman Panglima, and Taman Saujana Jaya.
This abandoned building, once a residence, was zoned as a commercial building some time ago, and has been the home of several businesses over the years: a used car sales dealer, a recycling center, an automobile service center, and several others.
