Sri Annapoorana Curry House is a restaurant specialising in Southern Indian cuisine, located at the intersection of Jalan Taming Sari (formerly known as Main Road) and Jalan Yusuf, on the city block directly adjacent to the Taiping Hospital. The restaurant is a very old and established business in Taiping, spanning 2 generations now. This is one of the busiest intersections in Taiping, and parking very close to the restaurant can be a Herculean feat at times. It is much better to park at the bays along Jalan Yusuf, or the parking lots on Jalan Barrack behind St. George’s, and walk for a bit to the restaurant.
The restaurant is open as early as 7.00 am to cater for the breakfast crowd, serving traditional Souther Indian breakfast dishes such as thosai, chapati, appam, idli, and various curries for accompaniment. Various local and Southern Indian kuih (snacks) and desserts are also served: vadai, masala vadai, ketayap, curry puffs, wajik / pulut kacau, kesari, and various others.
The main dishes served are vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes to accompany a rice meal. There are usually between 4 and 10 different vegetarian dishes available. Non-vegetarian dishes served are usually fish, mutton, and chicken curry, varuval, peratal, or fried.
Drinks served are teas, coffees, lassi, and fruit juices.
Sri Annapoorana Curry House is usually very busy at mealtimes: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant closes fairly early, at 8.00 pm, so be sure to get there early if choosing to dine in at night.
Food delivery services are available through GrabFood.
