Sugantha Restaurant is an Indian restaurant along Jalan Taming Sari (Main Road), very close to the hospital. The food here is very traditional South Indian food, sometimes fused with Malay food. Vegetarian dishes are served alongside non-vegetarian dishes.
Popular dishes:
- vegetable biryani,
- fish biryani,
- chicken biryani, and
- mutton biryani.
Snacks and light food served are roti canai, thosai, chapati, idli, bihun goreng (fried vermicelli), fried kuey teow, ulundu vadai, masala vadai, kesari, pulut kacau, appam, curry puffs, and various other local kuih (snacks) and desserts. Most snack menu items are available after 3 pm for the tea-time crowd.
The restaurant usually serves between 4 and 6 different vegetable dishes. Their fried podhalanka/ pudalangai (snake gourd) and spinach soup are really good.
Drinks served are teas, coffees, Milo, Nescafe, and fruit juices. Their masala tea and ginger tea are highly recommened.
Many special and rare dishes are served on Hindu temple days and special celebrations, and it is highly recommended to pay a visit to see what’s on the menu. The restaurant is usually very busy, though.
Parking is available on Main Road (Jalan Taming Sari) but it is inadvisable due to heavy traffic conditions and drivers who sometimes double park. There is a rear entrance to the restaurant along Jalan Pasar which has much better parking options.
Food is prepared from halal ingredients and sources.
Sugantha Restaurant is open daily from 7am to 8pm.
Food delivery is available through FoodPanda.
