The Taiping Malay Bazaar or locally known as Bazar Melayu was built as a marketplace in colonial times where Malay businesses would open songkok shops, barbershops, book stores, and clothing stores. Today the building still serves the same purpose and is a great place to shop for clothes, Malay traditional attire (especially the songkok), and traditional medicine.
A quick stroll through the bazaar will give you a feel of how trade was conducted in the marketplaces of old. Many shops in the bazaar still sell the same products it would have in pre-independence days. The Malay Bazaar is located in a rather busy intersection of town. Adjacent parking spaces are available, and there is also a large parking area available close by. The nearby market, clock tower and food market are also great places to visit, and are directly adjacent to the Malay Bazaar.
