Taiping Zoo was constructed in 1961 and is one of the oldest zoos in Malaysia. It houses over 1300 animals within the 34-acre park. The zoo is located in a natural rainforest area, at the foot of Bukit Maxwell (Maxwell Hill), and is a part of the greater Taiping Lake Gardens area. It is the only zoo in the northern region of Malaysia.
The Zoo is also a center for conservation efforts for endangered species, including the Malayan Tiger and orangutans. In April 2020, the zoo welcomed a trio of Malayan Tiger cubs, named Puntum, Teja and Bayu.
Zoo Taiping & Night Safari allows visitors entry to the zoo after dark to observe nocturnal animals in their habitat. The park is bathed in artificial lighting which gives the ambiance of moonlight to allow guests better views of the wonderful night-time critters in the Zoo.
Members of the public may sponsor the care of their chosen animal through the Zoo’s adoption program. Educational tours are available with prior arrangements with Zoo officials.
There is a gift shop, photo booth, and a restaurant within the Zoo.
The Zoo is open daily, including on weekends and public holidays.
