The Taiping City Council, or Majlis Perbandaran Taiping in Malay, is the principal administrative and regulatory body in Taiping governing land and property tax assessments, waste management, landscape maintenance, business premises licenses, markets licenses, hawker stalls licenses, entertainment premises, industry and advertisement licenses, rental of public event venues, and other regulatory affairs as governed by the Local Government Act 1976.
The principal functions of the Council are:
- Planning and controlling the development of Taiping, including approval of Layout Plans, Site Plans and Restructuring Planning Plans.
- Controlling development of buildings in Taiping, including approving Building Plans.
- Building Permit Applications and issuing Certificates of Fitness for Occupation.
- Licensing and control of business premises, temporary permits, hawkers, and advertising licenses.
- Ensuring food quality control, food sale centre’s cleanliness, and contagious diseases control.
- Monitoring and maintaining the town and landscape.
- Construction and maintenance of drainage and traffic systems.
- Providing and maintaining public facilities such as markets, halls, sports complexes, swimming pools, children playgrounds, bus stops and others recreational facilities.
- Managing and maintaining the zoo.
- Continuously upgrading basic facilities and the community’s socio-economy to a higher level.
Payment counter business hours:
- 8.00 am to 4.00 pm, Mondays to Fridays.
- Closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
